Xeriscape Seminar Week - April 7-12th, 2008


All seminars are free and open to the public

The seminars on Thursday, April 10th are full.  We may have room for a very limited number of extra attendees; to get on the standby list, arrive at the library at 5:30pm.  We’ll announce at 5:55pm whether we have room or not for you.  If you are pre-registered and are not present when the seminar begins, we cannot guarantee a spot for you.

We are hoping to add additional seminars in the coming weeks to accommodate the demand.  If you would like to be added to the waitlist for additional seminars, please click here.  We’ll let you know as soon as we have details.


Water-Wise Landscape Seminars

Every spring the CRC hosts numerous free seminars on the how-to’s of xeriscaping and other water-wise landscape practices to residents of participating cities. From getting started to more advanced topics, there is surely a seminar to suit your needs. To register for any of the seminars listed below click here. Xeriscaping: An  Introduction

Discover how xeriscaping can help you create a landscape that saves water and time.   Mike Ransom of Robert Howard Associates, Inc. will share techniques for designing and installing a successful water-wise landscape.  This class is intended for beginners and participants are strongly encouraged to come with questions.

 

Xeriscaping: An Introduction

This general introduction to xeriscape, by Curtis Manning of Curtis Manning Design, will cover the 7 Basic Principles of Xeriscaping.  The seminar will have added focus on plant selection, soil amendment, and efficient irrigation.      

 

Trees: Selection, Care and Maintenance

Wednesday, April 9th, 2007.  6:00pm-8:00pm.

City of Boulder tree expert Kathleen Alexander will provide information on how to select appropriate trees for Colorado’s climate and soil conditions and how to care for and maintain your new and existing trees.  Discover the best techniques to keep your trees happy and healthy, even during a drought!     

 

The Tricks of Xeriscape

Mikl Brauner of Harlequin's Gardens

Through over 20 years of xeriscaping experience in very dry conditions, Mikl has learned some valuable tricks. He has learned these the hard way through killing plants and years of experimentation. In this class you will learn these tricks in much less time for a much cheaper price.

 

Landscaping for Conservation

This seminar will explore various conservation techniques to use to when designing and maintaining a landscape.  We will showcase unique landscaping projects that utilize reused building materials, discuss landscaping for energy efficiency, and share information about new water conservation technology as well as tips for conserving water outdoors. Learn about free and low-cost programs available for homeowners to assist in conservation efforts.    

 

Renovating an Existing Landscape to a Xeriscape

Alison Peck, a landscape designer and contractor with over two decades of experience designing and installing award winning xeriscapes, will share her expertise on how to transform your lawn into a beautiful xeriscape.  Alison will focus on renovating techniques, including converting a sprinkler system to a drip system.  This class is meant for individuals with some knowledge of xeriscaping.
