Garden-in-a-Box

Landscaping in our arid climate doesn't have to be a challenge. There are many wonderful plants that require little water and do well in our clay soils. Put a few of these species together and you've created a beautiful xeriscape, or water wise landscape.

We've done the planning and design process for you to make establishing your own xeriscape a breeze. These three designs were created by professional landscape designers with the do-it-your-selfer in mind. They thrive in our arid climate and prefer full sun.

We have sold all Gardens for 2008 Garden-In-A-Box.  We will be offering the program in 2009 – please click here to put your name on the 2009 waitlist. People on the waitlist will have first priority for 2009 gardens.

You must be a resident of one of the participating cities to order a Garden-in-a-Box.  In 2008, the cities of Boulder, Longmont and Loveland participated.  We anticipate the same three cities participating in 2009.  If you are not a resident of one of these cities, you may still submit an inquiry and we will put your name on the request list.  In the event that your city participates we will contact you!

In the spring of 2009, the steps to order a Garden-In-A-Box will be as follows:

1.      Choose your design (the 2008 designs are below for reference)
2.      Pre-Order and Pre-Pay
3.      Pick up your garden on a designated date (usually a Saturday in May)

We offer free Water-Wise Landscaping Seminars at various points during the year.  The next two seminars will be in July and August for Lafayette residents.  A full week of seminars, sponsored by the cities of Boulder and Longmont and open to the public, will return in early April, 2009.  For information on the seminars, please click here.

Heavenly Hell

The narrow strip that runs between the sidewalk and the street in many neighborhoods is referred to by landscaping professionals as the “Hell Strip” because of the usual lack of water and especially hot temperatures that result from being surrounded by concrete & asphalt. Marcia Tatroe designed this garden to stand up to these adverse conditions and included hardy favorites like Basket of Gold, Blue Harebell, Rocky Mountain Penstemon, Lavender Cotton, and more. Plants in this garden will come in 2 1∕4’’ pots.
