Kill A Watt Loan Program

As energy costs increase, it is useful to know how much electricity appliances consume to help judge whether to adjust or replace them to save energy. Savings follows waste, so measuring the extent of waste is a wise first step in conserving energy.

To help Boulder consumers better understand their appliances' efficiency, the Energy Center of the Rockies is offering a Kill A Watt Loan Program. The Kill A Watt Power Meter can be used to measure the electricity consumed by any plug-in energy using device. Simply plug the Kill A Watt into your wall outlet and the device that youd like to measure into the Kill A Watt.

Kill A Watts are available at the CRC's office at 1702 Walnut, for sale (at purchase price of $25) or for a 2-week loan so that consumers can measure their appliances' efficiency. Once you've tested out some of your appliances, you can use the tool below to compare your appliances' efficiency and operating cost to that of a new ENERGY STAR appliance. To learn more about ENERGY STAR appliances and to locate a nearby dealer, go to www.energystar.gov.
